Manama, May20(BNA) The Minister of State for Electricity Water Affairs, His Excellency Dr. Abdul Hussain bin Ali Mirza, patronized the opening ceremony of the conference on “Leadership: New Horizons”, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The gathering is organized by the Bahrain Management Society and is attended by senior executives from top Bahraini companies and a large number of participants from within and outside Bahrain.
Addressing the audience, the Minister said that the topic of the conference focuses on the subject of corporate management change and aims at the dynamic changes due to mainly technological, economic and social changes.
Dr. Mirza cited several examples of rapid changes, including the technological revolution in telecommunications, social media such as twitter and the Instagram and expanding access to databases through search engines such as Google, which uses a daily rate of 3.5 billion researches worldwide.
“The usage of technology developed over the past century such as radio in a period of around 38 years, spread to 50 million persons, while Facebook as an example spread to the same number of people in two years only”, the Minister explained. “The target of leadership is to augment the future thinking and this is what makes a leader a distinct figure”, Mr. Mirza added.
He pointed out that the technological revolution being experienced by the world has changed the globe into small communities where civilizations and nations interact on continuous basis. He explained that the most important qualities of a unique leader include insight, referring to the wise political leaders of the Kingdom of Bahrain as a role model, adaptation and flexibility to cope with accelerating changes, motivation of teams working under his/her control. “A leader is an instrument for creating other leaders”, he said.
In his closing remarks, the Minister expressed his thanks to the Bahrain Management Society and to those committees that worked hard to bring about this significant event, particularly the Scientific Committees and the Organizing Committees. He extended special thanks to the speakers who enriched the discussions of the conference with their expertise and knowledge of management and leadership.
