Education Minister inaugurates Confucius College

Manama, April 15 (BNA)– Education Minister and Board of Trustees Chairman of the University of Bahrain (UoB) Dr. Majid bin Ali Al Nuaimi inaugurated today UoB Confucius College, in the presence of the Vice Mayor of Shanghai Municipality, Chinese Ambassador to Bahrain Li Chen, the Vice President of Shanghai University, UoB President Dr. Ibrahim Janahi and senior officials.

Dr. Al Nuaimi said at the inauguration ceremony, which was held at UoB’s Bahrain Media Facilities Centre Hall, that the opening of the new college is one of the dividends of His Majesty the King’s successful visit to China. He described it as a new achievement in further promoting educational and cultural cooperation between both countries, underlining the importance of teaching the Chinese language at the new centre.

The Education Minister and the audience unveiled the plaque of Confucius College and watched a line-up of artistic programmes presented by Chinese groups and the Education Ministry’s Students Orchestra.

Then , the Education Minister, the Vice Mayor of Shanghai Municipality and the Chinese ambassador toured the new centre which will provide researchers with cultural, linguistic and social Chinese theses and studies.

The Education Minister met on the sidelines of the celebration with the Vice Mayor of Shanghai Municipality, the Chinese Ambassador to Bahrain and the Vice President of Shanghai University. They discussed ways of activating the educational memoranda of understanding that were signed during HM the King’s visit to China and other issues of common interest.
