Historic Al Aali mounds nominated for inclusion in the list of World Heritage sites
The Minister of Culture, Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, has said that the Al Aali historic mounds have been nominated for inclusion in the list of World Heritage sites. She said that the ministry intends to carry on with the process of getting more unique landmarks registered with the World Heritage sites to help attract more tourism into Bahrain.
Shaikha Mai said Bahrain National Theatre, a gift from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to the nation, will be a cultural hub and is being constructed to coincide with the selection of Manama as the Capital of Arab Culture.
The theatre is scheduled for inauguration in November and work is underway for the completion of the project on time.
Draw held for tournament
The draw for Khalid bin Hamad Youth Centres Football Tournament, organised by the General Organisation for Youth and Sports and sponsored by Gulf Petrochemical Industry Company (GPIC), was held last week.
Sixteen teams were divided into four groups. Group ‘A’ comprises East Riffa, Al Jasra, Al Buhair, and Muharraq, while Group ‘B’ features Youth Hostels, Central Governorate, Arad and Isa Town.
Safra, Salmabad, Sanad and Busaiteen were placed in Group ‘C’, while Group ‘D’ consists of Zayed, Hamad Town, Shakhoora and Zallaq.
The tournament, which gets underway on Monday, will see matches taking place at Hamad Town Youth Centre grounds, and will be played in home-and-away format, except for the semi-finals and final. Total monetary support, including awards to the centres is worth BD14,000.
This support will have a positive impact on the progress of the teams and add more thrills to the competition.
Minister calls for improving standards of education
Minister of Education Dr Majid bin Ali Al Nuaimi has stressed the need for improving the overall standards of education in the schools.
He said the schools need to lay stress also on the cultural education.
The minister, referring to ministery’s project launched to improve the standard of education in four schools in October 2008, said that it has enabled people working in the education sector to attain higher level of knowledge and improve skills.
The level of knowledge and skills attained by the teachers has enabled them to bring imporovement in various areas, including raising the learning process among the students, improving active class management, the general behaviour in the classrooms and instilling a sense of responsibility among the students.
He said such an overall improvement will help take the education to a higher level in the country.
