Energy minister receives MEACO conference organisers

Manama, Jan. 1 (BNA): Energy Minister Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza received Middle East Africa Council of Ophthalmology (MEACO) PresidentDr. Ahmed Abdullah Ahmed and Dr. Ebtisam Al Alawi, Chairperson of the Organising Committee of the council’s 13th International Conference, being held in Bahrain later this year.


The event, under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister, will be held at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre from May 4 to 8.

The meeting was attended by the minister’s adviser Dr. Majid Abdul Karim and National Oil and Gas Authority Strategies and Planning General Manager Ali Abdul Jabbar Al Sawad.

The minister said he expected the conference would meet its desired goals and said such events being organised in Bahrain, was testimony to its prominent position in the international arena.

He said since international experts will attend the conference, it would show Bahrain in very positive light around the globe.

The minister applauded the organisers’ efforts and said participants would be able to take advantage of the papers that would be presented at the event. Discussions at the conference, he added, would undoubtedly benefit in raising the efficiency of the human element and the advancement of the field of ophthalmology.

Arrangements for holding the conference were also reviewed during the meeting and so were ways on how to come up with positive results to reinforce Bahrain’s status and its regional role in attracting global events and specialized gatherings.

The Congress is being held under the auspices of the Ministry of Health in cooperation with the Bahrain Ophthalmological Society and the World Council of Ophthalmology, as well as the University of Maryland.

Dr. Ahmed said the Middle East and Africa Ophthalmology operates in 32 countries, including all Arab nations, Turkey, Iran and 10 African countries. He said the Conference and Exhibition is one of the largest events in the field of ophthalmology and is expected to attract 4,000 participants from all over the world.

Experts in the field from Europe, the United States, Africa, East Asia and Australia will be present.

Around 100 physicians and academic speakers have been invited for the scientific programme, in addition to speakers from the Middle East and Africa.
