Rebellion driver Nick Heidfeld will miss this weekend’s World Endurance Championship finale in Bahrain through injury.
The former Formula 1 driver has announced on twitter that he will not be taking up his seat in the lead Rebellion-AER R-One privateer LMP1 as a result of damage,to hand ligaments sustained in the second round of the Formula E Championship at Putrajaya in Malaysia earlier this month.
It is believed that he injured his hand when his Spark-Mahindra M2Electro was tapped into a spin by DS Virgin driver Jean-Eric Vergne on the opening lap of race, after which he went on to finish ninth.
Heidfeld had been due to return to the Rebellion line-up alongside Nicolas Prost and Mathias Beche after missing the previous two races at Fuji and in Shanghai for family reasons.
No comment was available from Rebellion, which did not replace Heidfeld in Japan and China.
Christian Abt has also stood down from the Rebellion line-up and is missing the final two rounds to concentrate on his Formula E commitments with his family team.
The German has been replaced by GP3 racer Matheo Tuscher alongside Alexandre Imperatori and Dominik Kraihamer.
