COOL dude Lewis Hamilton says he will turn up the heat when the temperature drops.

Hamilton and his Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg were plagued by overheating tyres in the scorching desert of Bahrain.

But the 2008 world champ believes the problem will not be such an issue in the cooler conditions of Formula One’s upcoming races in Europe.

Hamilton, who finished fifth in Bahrain after pulling back from a slow start, said he was not surprised Merc had struggled at the sizzling track.

Although Rosberg took pole position, the team has never had great race pace there.

But Hamilton said: “We got a lot of information from the first four races to know that going to a cooler Europe will be good for us.

“It is good to get one of the most difficult races of the year out of the way in terms of heat.

“It was a massive positive, that race. I am very happy with it.

“Fifth was the best we were hoping to get. And obviously after the first half of the race, which was a disaster for me, I kept thinking even that would not be possible.

“So after falling back so far, I feel great.”

Hamilton admitted Mercedes still had other issues to address in order to challenge regularly at the front.

But he told racing bible Autosport: “To get a fifth, two thirds and another fifth in the first four races, I could not be happier.

“When I decided to join the team I knew potentially it could be a lot worse than that.”
