New York, Sept. 26 (BNA): Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa chaired the UN Post 2015 Sustainable Development Summit work session which officially adopted on its first day a new ambitious plan for sustainable development that will be the focus of the international community and governments in the next 15 days.
Work will concentrate on attaining 17 goals, including mainly eradicating poverty, promoting food security, guaranteeing good health, providing good education and bolstering sustainable economic development.
Addressing the summit, Social Development Minister Faeqa bint Saeed Al Saleh reviewed Bahrain’s efforts in achieving the sustainable development goals, stressing that Bahrain was able to carry out most of the goals of the millennium agenda for 2015 in various fields thanks to a strategic comprehensive development scheme and the royal reforms.
She also pointed out granting His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa the Information and Communication Technology in Sustainable Development Award by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), stressing that Bahrain is going ahead with mapping out plans to achieve the post-2015 sustainable development goals in the social, economic and environment fields. She said the kingdom will host a ministerial meeting on December 6 and 7 on implementing the sustainable development plan for 2030 in the Arab countries.
The meeting, she added, will be patronised by HRH the Premier and is part of the kingdom’s efforts to press ahead with sustainable development.
