Manama, May 12 (BNA): The Minister of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that the decision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, to deputize His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, to participate in the GCC-US summit to be held in Camp David on Thursday along with the leaders of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) States and US President Barack Obama, is due to a longstanding prior engagement of His Majesty the King in the United Kingdom.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohamed Al Khalifa, stressed that the participation of HRH Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa demonstrates His Majesty’s keenness for the Kingdom of Bahrain to be fully engaged in participating in this historic summit.
The Minister made clear that HRH the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister is the ideal representative of His Majesty the King at the summit, to convey and present His Majesty’s directives and views to further bolster friendly relations between GCC states and the United States of America, and to discuss means of further cooperation and joint work in order to address the current delicate situation and developments in the region, and to maintain regional security and stability.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs underlined that the Kingdom of Bahrain is keen to strengthen its deep-rooted ties of friendship with the United States at all levels, expressing his hope for a successful Camp David summit that further develops the strategic ties and multifaceted relations in various fields between the GCC and the US, for the benefit of all states and peoples in the region, and to help secure a more prosperous future for all.
