Foreign Minister receives the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near …

Manama, September 29 (BNA) — The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, met with the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Elizabeth Jones, at Bahrain’s Permanent Mission to the UN in New York.

The Foreign Minister affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain has followed a policy of tolerance and moderation, which he said led to the emergence of a society that believes in urbanization, respect for others and coexistence among all of its components.

He said that such coexistence in Bahrain is achieved under the rule of law and an independent judiciary.

Shaikh Khalid also added that acts of violence, terrorism and extremism currently taking place in Bahrain are carried out by terrorist groups with a particular agenda.

The Foreign Minister said that these acts are aimed at the security forces, terrorizing the innocent, creating chaos and causing discord and division so as to damage the national economy and development, but are encountered and deterred by a fair law system.

Ms Jones commended the historical ties between Bahrain and the US, praising the sincere keenness of His Majesty the King and Bahrain’s leadership in advancing reform through national dialogue, hoping to reach a consensus that contributes to the advancement and welfare of the Kingdom of Bahrain and its people .

The meeting also discussed bilateral relations, the outcome of the meeting between the GCC Foreign Ministers the US Secretary of State, the Syrian file and other important developments in the Middle East.
