Press TV has conducted an interview with Zayd al-Isa, a Middle East expert, to discuss the situation in Bahrain and Western governments supporting the Al Khalifa regime.
Below is an approximate transcription of the interview:
Press TV: Are you surprised at this latest news that actually the Germans seem to be involved in basically, trying to help spy on the Bahraini opposition?
Al-Isa: Well, I mean it is basically shocking to hear that German companies who have basically been complaining about being spied upon by the Americans are actually helping out and a tyrannical dictatorship, an unelected government who is basically opposed by the vast majority of Bahrainis who have been peacefully protesting since 2011, simply calling for and demanding democratic change and political reform in their own country in a peaceful manner and they have been taking to the streets ever since, with the same demands.
Those people have been subjected to an outright and clear cut invasion and occupation by the Saudi forces who have been basically helping out and bolstering the security forces of Bahrain and within 24 hours of arriving, those security forces, the Bahraini security forces backed by the Saudis, mounted a ferocious, murderous onslaught, resorting to savage, brutal crackdown against innocent civilians who have simply demanded political reform and democracy.
That is in stark contrast to the claims by the Germans also by the Americans that they are the standard bearers of democracy and they have claimed that they will back up and stand by those nations who are simply demanding peacefully…
Press TV: Sorry to interrupt you. What exactly does this show? We are talking about a German-British company that is actually providing the surveillance equipment to the tyrannical regime. On the other hand, we know nor the British nor the Americans, for that fact, not many of Western governments, if any, have really come down hard on Manama and yet as you say, they always claim to support democracy. So, what does this prove? Does this mean that profits are over people for these entities? Or exactly, why do they take the stance that they have on this situation in Bahrain?
Al-Isa: It basically proves and shows beyond the shadow of doubt that their efforts or their claims of standing up and defending human right are not worth the paper they are written on and it makes a mockery of their pretention that they are actually defending human rights and standing up for those people who are subjected to tyranny and being ruled by dictatorships.
It shows and proves beyond their shadow of doubt that those governments who claimed that they are going to adopt a moral imperative in actually adopting a moral stance in their foreign policy, this proves beyond the shadow of doubt that their words are not really worthy of their assertion, are simply for propaganda and they do not really stand by those people who are being subjected to tyranny and also we have seen the turning a blind eye to the brutal and savage, with which the Bahraini government backed up by the Saudi government which actually perceives Bahrain simply as its backyard garden, have thrown its overwhelming support behind the Bahraini government in its crackdown against the protesters.
