MANAMA, Oct. 29 (Saba) – The Gulf Cooperation Council’s (GCC) Secretary General on Tuesday said that the Gulf mediation has had a crucial role in ending crisis in Yemen via the Gulf initiative.

The Gulf initiative was a lifeline prevented Yemen from being steered towards a potential civil war, and opened doors for a political solution that paved the way for a power transfer and the start of the national dialogue conference, Abdullatif al-Zayani said in his speech at the opening of the Gulf Strategic Conference organized by the Bahrain Centre for Strategic, International and energy Studies kicked off in Bahrain Tuesday morning.

Al-Zayani said that the GCC’s foreign policies are based on two principles, the respect of the unity, sovereignty and stability of neighboring countries and non-interference in their internal affairs. The second one is the belief that domestic and regional stability is depended on rejecting violence and adopting dialogue to prevent conflicts, he added.

The GCC is fully aware of the close internal, regional and international risks, and also aware that these risks cannot be encountered but through a joint cooperation, he said.

“Any attack or threat to a GCC’s member state is an attack on all, al-Zayani said, underlining that the GCC States have become more than ever coherent towards all regional and international issues.

The GCC’s States are considering a project to establish a Gulf police as a part of their efforts to combat organized crime, terrorist movements, cyber-attacks, money laundering and other serious crimes, he said.
