Gulf summit in Riyadh to solve issues with Qatar

RIYADH, Nov. 14, (Xinhua) — A Gulf summit is expected to be organized in Riyadh to solve issues between three Gulf countries and Qatar, according to Al Sharq Al Awsat newspaper on Friday.

Qatar is suppose to host next month the annual Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summit for Gulf countries leaders, but reports said Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain may refuse to attend the event due to Qatar’s failure to meet the agreed recommendations to solve issues between them.

The three countries withdrew their ambassadors in Qatar in March, attributing the reason to Qatar’s direct and indirect interference in the internal issues of GCC countries, as well as its support to individuals and organizations that endangers the stability and security of Gulf countries.

The preparatory meetings for the Gulf summit were not held as scheduled, as there were instructions to postpone it until further notice, a source with the GCC General Secretariat told the newspaper.

Meanwhile, the UAE and Bahrain announced a few days earlier to withdraw from Qatar Handball World Cup without stating the reason, but the dispute might be the main reason.
