Manama, Nov. 12. (BNA) — Raed Himmo overcame some stiff competition to emerge victorious in the fourth round of Bahrain International Circuit’s (BIC) Auto X Championship, held at the BIC premises in Sakhir.
Himmo clinched first place after topping the meeting’s Hyundi Genesis Shootout.
Himmo earned the right to compete in the decisive shootout after winning both the Standard and Super Pro classes during the competition’s preliminary round.
In the Standard Class, Himmo steered his Porsche Boxster S to first place after registering a best lap time of 36.356 seconds around a specially erected course at BIC’s car park.
Sangeeth in a Mazda 3 came in second (42.145s), while Savas driving a Porsche 968 was third (42.308s).
Himmo followed that up with another fine performance in the Super Pro Class. This time driving an Ultralite, Himmo was able to clock a lap of 38.601s. Robin Batram Brown was the runner-up with a time of 39.652s in his Porsche Turbo. Julias in a Lotus Exige was third overall in 38.601s.
The quickest three drivers of the night then moved on to the shootout to battle for the top prize. Himmo managed a quick time of 39.895s, which was well ahead of Julias’s 42.097s and Brown’s 42.514s.
At the end of the competition, the winners were presented their various prizes. Sangeeth came away with a special award after being named as the Driver of the Night. He bravely took on two Porsches in his Mazda 3 Automatic and managed to come away with second place in his class.
The Auto X Championship is one of the newest additions to BIC’s year-long programme of top-class competitions. At the end of its inaugural eight-round season, an overall winner will be crowned.
The fifth round is scheduled to take place on December 14, followed by round six on January 24. The championship’s seventh and penultimate meeting is slated for February 15, while the season-finale will be held on May 3.
