HRH Premier: Bahrain set model in freedom of expression

Manama, May 1 (BNA): His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa has stressed the influential role of responsible journalism in disseminating values of peace and co-existence in the communities and expressing the aspirations of people for a more stable and prosperous life.
In a message to the world marking the World Press Freedom Day, on May 3, he emphasised the importance of journalism and mass media in boosting understanding between people and fostering tolerance and peace.

HRH the Prime Minister urged to support responsible press and strengthen it amid fast-paced technological development and diverse news and information sources. He said Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, has shown the world a model in openness and freedom of expression. He praised the role of journalists and media persons in revealing to the whole world the real image of Bahrain as a pioneering and developed country.

HRH the Premier called on journalists and media personnel to exert more efforts, taking pride in Bahrain’s developed and responsible press. He also urged to found a sound media and journalistic climate that paves the way for a new generation of highly professional journalists and media persons.

HRH the Prime Minister stressed that choosing May 7 to celebrate Bahrain Press Day, in line with the royal directives, is a tribute to Bahraini journalists and media personnel for their outstanding and creative contributions to building the nation.

HRH described the World Press Freedom Day as an opportunity to further support the press and media work and its role in promoting noble values and defending people’s right for a decent, secure and stable life.

“Growing political, security, economic and cultural challenges all over the world necessitate a responsible press and media role that is based on credibility and objectivity,” he said.
