Local Manama, Jun. 24. (BNA) – His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa has directed to start the building of two multi-storey car parks in the Muharraq Souq that can accommodate1000 cars on a 10,000 sq-metre-area.


He also ordered to relocate the Muharraq Post to an area adjacent to the Bahrain International Airport and allocate its current premises to the services and facilities needed by the Souq and its shoppers, and instructed the ministries of Finance, Transportation and Municpalities Affairs and Urban Planning to study the plan.

This came as HRH Premier paid this afternoon a surprise visit to the Muharraq Souq, where he was informed about the citizens’ needs regarding the commercial services and necessary facilities required to restore the iconic market’s vitality and pioneering role.

In this regard, he directed officials in the service ministries to step up their close follow-up on the needs of the Muharraq Souq and its shoppers.

HRH the Prime Minister was briefed by the Municipalities and Urban Planning Minister Dr. Juma’a bin Ahmed Al Ka’abi on the projects to be implemented in Muharraq by his ministry, in cooperation with the Ministry of Transportation, including building car parks there and revamping the bus stop.

HRH Premier emphasised the government’s continuous efforts to re-build the Muharraq Souq’s part that was damaged by the recent blaze, and interest to make sure that the market’s traders resume their activities as soon as possible, out of its desire to ensure that the livelihoods of Bahrainis are not affected.

HRH Premier also instructed government bodies to continue revamping the Muharraq City’s old neighbourhoods, and directed the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning and the Muharraq Municipal Council to determine areas that need urgent revamping, stressing the need to provide sufficient and high quality services in all fields.

He confirmed that the utmost goal of all development projects implemented by the government is to meet the citizens’ expectation and achieve their satisfaction.

“Our determination to achieve the best for the homeland will go ahead un-wavered, and all are required to exert extra efforts in order to ensure the nation’s development and prosperity and maintain its stability and safety,” he said, urging the citizens to join ranks in order to preserve the kingdom’s hard-won milestone achievements in various fields.

Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, the Muharraq Governor, Chairman of the Traditional Markets’ Committee at the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Chairman of the Committee in charge of assessing losses of the Muharraq souq fire extended profound thanks and gratitude to HRH Premier for his tireless efforts to revive historical markets the sake of enabling them to regain their deep-rooted pivotal role in the kingdom’s economic and commercial system.

They also lauded HRH Premier’s directives to expedite the compensation of traders affected by the Muharraq souq, noting that the kind gesture reflects his constant support for the trade community.
