Manama, Nov26(BNA)The University of Bahrain, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tamkeen have today been presented with the fourth edition of Her Highness Princess Sabeeka Award for Bahraini Women Empowerment, after ranking first, second and third in the category of Governmental institutions.
HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) patronised the prize-distribution event. The biennial ceremony was attended this morning by ministers, senior officials and members of the award committee which includes Bahraini and international experts.
HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al-Khalifa has also presented Gulf Petrochemicals Industries Company (GPIC) Alba and Royal University for Women (RUW) with the award after ranking first, second and third respectively in the category of the private sector.
HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al-Khalifa stressed the positive impact of the award, since its inception in 2004, in acknowledging the programmes which promote women to hold decision-making positions. She underscored the importance of the award in promoting the incorporation of women’s needs in the work plans of public and private establishments and encouraging Government’s departments to empower women and train them to assume leading and executive roles as decision-makers.
In a statement on the sidelines of the distribution ceremony, she pointed out the vocation of the award in enhancing the commitment of ministries, public and private enterprises to promote non-discriminatory gender policies.
HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al-Khalifa hailed the committee in charge of the award for their efforts to promote the standards of the prize, assess its results to ensure its pre-set goals are achieved. HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al-Khalifa hailed the achievements of Bahraini women this year, citing particularly the success of 11 female candidates to compete in the parliamentary and municipal run-off elections.
