Manama, Dec. 12 (BNA)—Human Rights Minister Dr. Salah bin Ali Abdulrahman received today a delegation from the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) Policies and Research Centre, headed by USCIRF Chairperson Dr. Katrina Lantos Swett, member Dr. Aziza Al Hibri as well as founder and Chairman of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy (AIFD) Mohammed Zuhdi Jasser.
The minister welcomed the USCIRF members, stressing that Bahrain has known many civilisations throughout its history. Nonetheless, it has preserved its main characteristic of tolerance and inter-religious co-existence as an ever-lasting human value.
He said Bahrain has succeeded in accommodating all religious components thanks to its favourable social environment, citing diverse places of worship, particularly in Manama.

He pointed out that minorities in Bahrain have a remarkable presence at the Shura Council, diplomatic missions and the civil society institutions.

“Bahrain has guaranteed religious freedom throughout its long history. Religious and cultural diversity has turned it into an open state,” he asserted.

“Renouncing fanaticism and division as well as hatred-inciting rhetoric is inherent in the Bahraini people.

Bahrain is powerful thanks to the unity of its people and their loyalty to the leadership,” he said, pointing out the government’s efforts to restore confidence, mend the rift and promote brotherhood and co-existence among the two social components.

He expressed hope the situation will go back to normal as there is no way for the two components but to live side by side as they have ever done for centuries.

The delegation hailed tolerance and co-existence characterizing Bahrain, describing the kingdom as a pioneering Arab model in this regard.

They also expressed readiness to take part in activities aimed at further cementing the social fabric in Bahrain.

The meeting was attended by US Ambassador to Bahrain Thomas Krajeski.
