INDIANS in Bahrain yesterday celebrated their country’s 67th Independence Day with a line-up of activities.
Flag-hoisting ceremonies were held at the Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS) and Indian School.
Indian Ambassador Dr Mohan Kumar was present at the BKS ceremony in Segaiya along with embassy staff and members of the community.
A message from Indian President Pranab Mukherjee was read out and students rendered patriotic songs.
The Indian School event was attended by officials and students at the Isa Town campus.
The Indian tricolour was hoisted by school acting principal Maria Waltin, in the presence of other officials.
A flag-hoisting ceremony was held at the Kerala Catholic Association in Manama, attended by president Sevi Mathunny. A cultural show was held in the evening, featuring skits, dances and songs.
The Bahrain Singers’ Association hosted a musical evening at the South Park Restaurant in Gudaibiya.
The Indian Club hosted the grand finale of its summer camp for children as part of Independence Day celebrations.
Kerala Social and Cultural Association (KSCA) Bahrain celebrated Independence Day at its premises with president Pambavasan Nair hoisting the Indian flag.
Mr Nair paid tribute to national heroes who sacrificed their lives during the freedom struggle.
He also congratulated the Indian community in Bahrain on the occasion. Executive committee members Ajay Kumar, Suresh Babu, Manoj Kumar and Janardhanan Nambiar, and community members were present.
