Manama, June 8 (BNA): Information Minister Isa Abdulrahman Al Hammadi underlined Bahrain’s keenness on fighting corruption, pointing out that the kingdom’s access to the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) agreement will impart an international dimension to the efforts exerted in this respect.
Speaking at the post-Cabinet press conference today, he noted that the main aim of the agreement, which was joined by 53 countries from across the globe, is to exchange experiences in fighting corruption. He pointed out Bahrain’s clear programme and the role played by the Interior Ministry’s General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security in this regard. He added that once the agreement was signed, Bahrain would be committed to its legal aspects and membership in IACA.
The minister emphasised the great importance accorded by the government bodies to the safety and security of all people in Bahrain, pointing out that transgression of citizens or expatriates’ safety and dignity is not accepted and will be handled according to the law.
Concerning safety on roads, he urged drivers to comply with the safety rules and speed limit to avoid accidents. As for ongoing projects to develop roads in Bahrain, the minister underscored the directives of His Royal Highness the Premier to ensure quality materials are used while carrying out those projects and compliance with the specifications pre-set by the Ministry of Works and contractors.
Regarding the terror cell busted by the Interior Ministry, the minister explained that the statement was clear on the issue and all legal and diplomatic procedures would be taken in this respect. On whether security measures will be stepped up concerning travelling to countries which have been associated with training the terror groups, the Information Minister said Bahrain has a distinguished and highly vigilant security system. He pointed out that although travelling security measures do not change, there could be some preemptive procedures introduced from time to time when needed.
Regarding the draft project on regulating the pharmacy profession, the minister said that the aim to open the sector for private investments without conditioning the issuance of commercial registers on the obtainment of academic qualification to exercise the profession.
The draft project, he said, also aims at diversifying options for people to obtain medication, promoting open competiveness and ensuring quality products at affordable prices.
The minister announced that a press conference would be held on Wednesday to announced the radio TV programmes lined up for the holy month of Ramdan.
Regarding the media staff cadre, the minister that a meeting had already been held with the Civil Service Bureau (CSB), pointing out ongoing coordination between the two sides.
