Integral proves strongest in the sun

A clever ride from Ryan Moore saw Integral take the Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket.

In the absence of an early front-runner in this Group One race over a mile, Moore decided to take control of matters and took the lead early on.

When Moore stepped on the gas, Sir Michael Stoute’s filly responded superbly to keep the rest of the field at arm’s length and scored by a length from Miss France, with Fintry back in third place.

“She sat handy when she won the Falmouth and we didn’t have a lot of options really,” Moore said. “Holding her up would have been tricky, but you never know in those sort of races. It worked out well.

“She’s a very good filly. She won at Royal Ascot, she was impressive in the Falmouth, she was all wrong at Deauville.

“We’ve always thought very highly of her. She’s a good filly.”

Stoute confirmed afterwards that Integral will sit out the rest of this season – save for a possible appearance in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes – and she will remain in training in 2015.

“She did a nice piece of work about 10 days ago with Ryan and we were very happy with that,” he told Racing UK. “We had a chat this morning and Ryan said he didn’t want to take her back. She made it in the Falmouth so she’s very versatile.

“You can ride her any way, but I love her with a lead. She’s got a great kick. She’s a class act and she was in good shape today.

“She’s going to stay in training. Her dam Echelon was even better at five. I wouldn’t mind if she improved a few more pounds.

“The QEII would be the only other consideration. We’ll have to see how she comes out of this. We might take our chance.”

This season the Setanta Sports pack will show 71 live Barclays Premier League games and 35 exclusively live European Rugby Champions Cup games including key games for the Irish Provinces. Sign up here
