Iran booked a place in the 2015 IHF World Men’s Handball Championship on Sunday.

The Iranian team drew 30-30 with host Bahrain in Group A of the 16th Asian Senior Men’s Handball Championship in a spectacular match held at the Khalifa Sports City’s Hall in Manama, Bahrain.

Iran advanced to the semifinal round and will face Qatar on Tuesday.

“We are thrilled to have qualified for the World Handball Championship. We wanted to defeat Bahrain, but it was not a bad result,” Iran Handball Federation President Jalal Kouzehgari told the Mehr News Agency on Monday.

“Qatar takes advantage of European players, but we are determined to defeat them to book a place in the final. We want to lift the trophy,” he added.

The top four finishers all earn a place in the 2015 IHF World Men’s Handball Championship, which will be held with the participation of 24 teams in Qatar from January 17 to February 1, 2015.
