Tehran Times Sports Desk
Iran defeated Bahrain 6-0 in the AFC U-16 Championship India 2016 qualifying matches on Sunday.
In the match held at the Gostaresh Foolad Stadium in Tabriz, Iran, Mohammad Reza Ghobeishavi was on target just one minute into the match.
Mohammad Sharifi (18th and 51st), Mohsen Goudarzi (45th), Erfan Sadeghi (65th) and Mohammad Reza Davari (89th) also scored for the Iranian team.
Iran opened the campaign with a 3-1 victory over Lebanon and then defeated India 3-0.
Iran advanced to the next year’s AFC Under-16 championships, where the youngsters will then try to reach the FIFA 2017 Under-17 World Cup, which will be held in India.
Eleven group winners and four best second-placed teams (to be announced in due course) will join India in next year’s finals, with the tournament hosts receiving an automatic qualification.
The final tournament also acts as the AFC qualifier for the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup in India, with the top four teams qualifying (as India already qualified automatically as hosts, the fifth-placed team also qualify if India finish in the top four).
