Isa Town rout Muharraq

Isa Town trounced Muharraq 4-1 in the first-leg of the quarter-final to take a significant step towards reaching the semi-finals in the First Khalid bin Hamad Youth Centres Football League, being held at the Hamad Town Youth Centre ground in Bahrain.

The tournament is being organised by the General Organisation for Youth and Sports (Goys), patronised by First Vice-Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa and sponsored by GPIC.

Isa Town controlled the midfield early in the first half and Hussain Kazerooni opened the scoring after 10 minutes. Kazerooni, the former Bahrain futsal team striker, was again on target just seven minutes later, giving Isa Town a 2-0 lead at the break. Muharraq’s best stage came early in the second-half when they created a number of dangerous inroad but they lacked concentration.

Instead, it was Isa Town who stretched their lead in the 51st minute through Salman Khalid, who capitalised on a counter attack to make it 3-0. The following stages saw Muharraq press forward and their efforts finally paid off in the 78th minute thanks to Khalid Sayyar’s spectacular shot.

However, Muharraq’s later comeback was soon foiled as Isa Town hit again with a fourth goal six minutes before the final whistle through Isa Abdulaziz Bukhammas.

Safra made it to the quarter-finals after winning Group ‘C’ with seven points, beating Salmabad 3-1 in the opening match before being held to a goalless draw by Al Janoob Youth Centre. They then won their third and last game in emphatic style, beating Busaiteen 12-0 to top the group.

On the other hand, Hamad Town made it to this stage by coming second in Group ‘D’ with six points from two wins over Zayed Town (6-0) and Al Shakhoora (7-3) and a defeat to Al Zallaq (2-4).
