Jaffer, Ammar star in Shuttler’s Clash tourney

 

The second series of Shuttler’s Clash tournament organized by Evenlode Badminton Club (EBC) and Dhahran Badminton Association (DBA) came to a successful end at Junior High School and IBIS indoor courts in Dhahran recently.

Over 800 players from all over the Kingdom from Eastern Province, Riyadh, Jeddah, Abha, Yanbu and GCC players from Bahrain, Syria, UAE competed in this mega event.

Players from various nationalities of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Syria, India, Pakistan, Jordan Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, China took part in the two-day event.

In the GCC Premier Flight, Jaffer Ebrahim of Bahrain and Ammar Awad of Syria were the winners of the doubles champions trophy beating their opponents from Riyadh Salvador Kapunan and Ralph of Philippines. The superior offensive and defensive strategy of both the opponents thrilled the crowd with long rallies, which in the end the Arab duo won in close straight sets to claim the title.

In the hotly contested singles match, Jaffer Ebrahim beat Ammar Awad to win the championship. Ladies champions were from Indian International School, Riyadh, Sandra Sakaria-Neha Jojo and runner-up were Conflor Lumbang-Grace Lumbang of Riyadh. The mixed doubles championship went to Ralph Nelson-Josephine Dupet and runner-up Reyan Del Reyes – Margie Joy of Jeddah.

EBC President Tony Mathew and DBA President Surendran Nair congratulated all the winners and runners-up and thanked the tournament sponsors.

Trophies along with cash prizes to the winners and runners-up were awarded by EBC and DBA officials along with the sponsors. TOTAL company awarded the trophy and cash prize for the best uniform club, which was awarded to Fun Club Dammam. During the opening ceremony of the event, EBC presented a momentum as a token of appreciation to the representative of Saudi Badminton Federation Alayan Al-Harbiof for getting Saudi Arabia officially accredited by World Badminton Federation (BWF).

The chairmen of the various tournament committee included Tony Mathew, Surendran Nair, Sulficar Shaji, Renin Wilson, Thaju Ayyaril, Shaikh Ashrafullah, Fahim Siddique, Mansoor Vaisyar, Aslam Achu, Abdul Majeed, Mahammed Baigue, Arif Shamsuddin, Sheikh Ali, Naufal Nasser, Tariq Mahmood, ZamirHussein, Mohamed Shafi, Chandresh Verma, Azeem Ahmed, Meharoof Bangalath, Arif Ahmed, Ganesh Prasad, Noble Kavalam, Dillep PV, Abu Kunju Tahir, Rahim, Majeed, Riju, Thomas Kavalam, Jalal Sooraj, Shijil Kuriakose, Santhosh Narayanan, Stanely, Shani Shanidand Reji Peter and Fahad Khalid were the Tournament Director and Deputy Director.
