Jeremy Corbyn needs to have a serious think about the company he keeps

But such is the Labour leader’s utter contempt for Britain’s long-standing Gulf ally that he lent his support to Abdul Raoof al-Shayeb, a leading campaigner for the overthrow of the Bahrain government who was convicted and jailed on terrorism charges earlier this week at Snaresbrook Crown Court.

During the trial the court heard that Shayeb had met the Labour leader on several occasions to win support for his campaign to overthrow the Bahrain government. “Many times I have seen Jeremy Corbyn in the Houses of Parliament and also outside in many conferences that have been held by the Bahraini opposition,” Shayeb said in evidence. The Bahraini terrorist also visited the home of Lord Avebury, the Left-wing human rights campaigner.

But a very different side to the Iranian-backed terrorist’s activities has now emerged as a result of his conviction. During the trial the court heard that when police raided Shayeb’s house in Maida Vale they found his computer filled with military files on bombs and missiles which the judge said could have led “to the deaths of any people.” The computer, which Shayeb claimed he had found in his garden, contained a PowerPoint presentation on how to become a sniper. There were also details on how to launch grad missiles “capable of killing large numbers of people”.

Despite his claims of innocence, the jury unanimously found him guilty of terrorism charges.

As Mr Corbyn reflects on his ill-judged association with Shayeb, he might also like to know the true extent of Shayeb’s terrorist links.

For a detailed investigation conducted by Bahraini security officials has revealed that Shayeb acquired much of his terrorist know-how from the frequent visits he made to meet leaders of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, the region’s Shia superpower which is committed to the overthrow of Bahrain’s ruling Sunni royal family.
