Khalid bin Hamad Swim Challenge 2015 launched

Manama, Dec. 13 (BNA)– Khalid bin Hamad Swim Challenge, from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain, which is organised by Khalid bin Hamad Institution, is set to take place in April 2015, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport and President of Bahrain Athletics Association Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa has announced.


Swimmers from Bahrain and all over the world can take part in the challenge by subscribing at Khalidbinhamadchallenge.bh website, Shaikh Khalid, the event’s patron, said as he inaugurated the Finish Line Gate Monument at the Sofitel Resort and the website (Khalidbinhamadchallenge.bh).

Present at the inauguration were Southern Governor Shaikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Khalifa, President of the General Organisation for Youth and Sport Hesham Mohammed bin Mohammed Al Jowder, Bahrain Olympic Committee Secretary General Abdulrahman Sadaq Askar, Bahrain Swimming Association President Shaikh Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa and world champions in swimming and triathlon.

Shaikh Khalid described the inauguration of the Finish Line Gate Monument at the Sofitel Resort as a step to turn the historic sport landmark into a constant witness of the global initiative where world champions can write their names and signatures to commemorate their victory in the swim challenge from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain.

He added launching the swim challenge is an assertion of Bahrain’s status as a major host of world championships and aims to encourage the youth from across the globe to take part in them. He pointed out that proceeds of the swim challenge will benefit cancer patients, underlining the importance of solidarity and cooperation in fighting diseases.
