KHUH holds conference on blood donation

Manama, Dec. 5 (BNA): Under the patronage of the Supreme Council of Health President Lieutenant General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, the King Hamad University Hospital (KHUH) organised the first conference for blood banks services themed “Donate blood..Save a life”, in cooperation with blood bank at the Salmaniya Medical Complex.


KHUH Commander of Medical Services Shaikh Salman bin Ateyatalla Al Khalifa, Arabian Gulf University (AGU) President Dr. Khalid Abdul Rahman Al-Ohaly, President of the Central Blood Bank, senior officials at the Ministry of Health, GCC Experts, students from Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in Bahrain (RCSI-Bahrain) were present.

Chairman of the Conference Dr. Khalid Al Sindi said to Bahrain News Agency (BNA) that this conference is held in Bahrain for the first time and attracts more than 300 doctors and experts from private and public hospitals.

The conference aims to shed light on blood banks’ services in the GCC, especially the Kingdom of Bahrain and disseminate awareness in GCC societies and medical cadres in this field to support the cooperation ties bonding GCC blood banks as well as honouring authorities supporting KHUH in its blood donations campaigns.

Dr. Al Sindi said that the blood bank in KHUH communicates constantly with blood banks in the GCC, especially the blood bank in Kuwait, which is one of the blood banks that adopt advanced international standards.

He affirmed that this conference is a preparatory conference for the coming conference that will review several joint GCC key policies, like establishing a system to deal with GCC blood banks services.

The conference’s agenda features a number of scientific papers, which includes 4 papers by Bahraini speakers.

Assistant Executive Director at Hamad Medical Corporation expressed thanks to those in charge of the conference.
