Lebanon keen on preserving best ties with Arab countries

BEIRUT, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) — Lebanon’s Prime Minister Najib Mikati affirmed Thursday Lebanon’s keenness on preserving best ties with the Arab countries mainly those of the GCC.

According to a statement by his media office, Mikati’s words came following his meeting at the Grand Serail Thursday with a delegation of the GCC ambassadors.

Mikati said “Lebanon’s ties with the Arab countries shall remain one of brotherhood and cannot be shaken in any way.”

March 8 Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun has recently criticized the international community and the Arab League for their lack of support for Bahraini protesters.

Bahrain summoned last Friday Lebanese charge d’affaires, Ibrahim Assaf, over Aoun’s remarks, accusing Aoun of meddling in other country’s internal affairs.

Mikati said that political statements pronounced expressed individual stances and not official ones.

He called on all leaders to abide by the national dialogue conference, also known as the Baabda Declaration, which stipulates disengaging Lebanon from regional and international conflicts, in order to spare the country these conflicts’ impacts.
