Malaysia jump one spot in latest FIFA Rankings

The Malayan Tigers have moved up to the 160th spot in the latest FIFA Rankings, though they remain the 30th best team in Asia

Malaysia has jumped one spot from 161 to 160th in the latest FIFA Rankings, while also retaining their spot as the 30th best team in Asia.

Datuk K. Rajagopal’s men were comfortably beaten by China last month, but they managed to secure a pivotal 1-1 draw against Bahrain in the Asian Cup Qualifiers last Tuesday.

This improvement in ranking is a welcomed one, especially considering that the Football Assocation of Malaysia (FAM) have publicly confirmed their intention of having Malaysia play in more Class ‘A’ international friendly matches.

However, with tough clashes against the likes of Bahrain coming up, it will be interesting to see how Malaysia fare in the FIFA Rankings at the end of the year, especially when they even placed at 157 earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Japan continue to lead the Asian pack, being placed 44th in the world, with Iran and Uzbekistan coming in closely behind on 49th and 53rd spot respectively. Philippines are the highest ranked South East Asian team on 137, while Thailand are second on the 143rd spot.

On the bigger scale, Spain continue their domination at the top of the FIFA rankings, although Germany displaced Argentina in second spot.
