Man claims assault by colleagues

FOUR men are in police custody suspected of assaulting their colleague, who wanted to switch jobs.

Pakistani Muhammad Yousaf, 25, claims he was brutally attacked on Wednesday by three Pakistani men and a Bahraini, who allegedly took him from his Salmabad labour accommodation, threatened and assaulted him.

He was then being taken towards Sitra by his alleged attackers, who all work in an electrical company, when he managed to open the car door and run towards the Sitra Police Station, where he filed a complaint.

“I was stripped and beaten up, they kicked me on my stomach and genitals,” said Mr Yousaf.

“I obtained mobility from the Labour Market Regulatory Authority after I came back to Bahrain from vacation in Pakistan and resigned from my present job.”

However, a company official has denied the allegations, despite the four men expecting to appear before the Public Prosecution today.

He claimed Mr Yousaf’s resignation was approved and he was using pre-existing injuries to extort money from his employers.

An Interior Ministry official confirmed that a case had been filed against five men, three Pakistanis and two Bahrainis – the owner and his son.

“All, except the owner are being held for reported assault with the use of weapons and are awaiting trial,” said the official.

“The report says that an iron rod and wooden planks were used as a weapon.

“No one has been charged with any offence yet as it will be decided after they go to trial.”

The Pakistan Embassy was aware of the case when contacted yesterday.

“We will, however, wait for the investigations to be over and for the judicial process to take its own course,” said embassy charge d’affaires Aurangzeb.
