DUBAI: An inebriated elderly passenger who attacked a stewardess and threatened to blow up a plane if he was denied more alcohol was imprisoned for six months on Sunday.

The Bahraini visitor, MK, 68, committed an assault on the national airline as he misbehaved onboard, wreaked havoc, shouted bomb threats and claimed he had a pistol.

He shouted at a Moroccan stewardess, SH, 24, and pushed her while demanding she should let him sit in the Business Class. He illicitly possessed and consumed alcohol, the Criminal Court learnt.

He harassed SH by performing offensive gestures while begging her to follow him inside the toilet stall. This happened onboard a Dubai plane during its return flight from Bahrain on the evening of Jan.21.

A quarter an hour after takeoff, stewardesses were preparing meals when MK asked for alcoholic drinks. “He had a bottle of alcohol he had bought from the Duty Free.

“I refused to give him drinks because he had become abnormal after having boozed up,” explained SH. He became chaotic. The cabin crew tried to calm him. He refused to listen and demanded them to give him alcohol. He frightened passengers that he had “a firearm and explosives,” threatened to blow up the plane and tried to force his way into the Business Class.

SH tried to stop him but he pushed her away. Another stewardess intervened and managed to stop him from entering. He went to the rear while shouting that they must give him alcohol.

He revealed he had entered with his own alcohol and placed it in the overhead shelf. For the safety of other passengers, the cabin crew refused to let him have it. The pilot advised them to seize him.

Shortly after, he jumped out of his seat and walked towards the toilet while asking SH to follow him. When she asked him whether he needed special help, he gestured offensively.
