Mosque work nears completion

WORK on a mosque being built in India through funds raised in Bahrain is nearly complete.

More than BD20,000 was collected during a fundraiser last year to build the mosque, a Quran memorisation centre and an Islamic madrasa (school) in Maharashtra, India.

The project covers an area of 15 square metres with two rooms for the memorisation centre, a terrace and an open courtyard.

It was spearheaded by Muntadha Bawabat Al Bahrain (Bahrain Gate Forum) in collaboration with Al Eslah Society and Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Ansari Grand Mosque in Isa Town.

“Our target was to raise BD8,000, but generous donors in Bahrain donated BD20,000 for this cause,” said a society spokesman.

“The money was collected, counted and saved for this purpose.

“We then found a site to build the mosque in Maharashtra state.

“After having several meetings with authorities in India, work on the BD20,000 mosque started in Ramadan this year.

“It’s almost complete and contractors are making the final touches.

“We are grateful to all the donors and would like to thank them for their support.”

The society hopes to build 20 to 30 mosques in countries across the globe and this year India was selected, added the spokesman.

It also built a mosque in Orissa, India, in 2011.
