MUSCAT — Bahrain TV Sports Channel has been granted the broadcasting rights while Oman TV is one among the regional channels that have bought the telecasting rights to beam live the 21st Gulf Cup to be staged in Bahrain from January 5 to 18.
According to a press release from the organisers, this announcement was made by Supreme Council for Youth and Sports General Secretary Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim al Khalifa at a press conference held at the National Stadium’s conference hall in Riffa yesterday.
Speaking at the conference, Shaikh Salman said the organising committee will fully pay the amount that gives the Bahrain TV Sports Channel the right to telecast the competition, noting that this was in compliance with the directives of Supreme Council Chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad al Khalifa.
The broadcasting rights were purchased from World Sport Group, a Singapore-based firm that has all exclusive satellite broadcast copyrights of the 21st Gulf Cup.
Besides Oman TV, other regional channels to have bought the telecasting rights include Al Kass Channel, Abu Dhabi Sports Channel, Dubai Sports Channel, Saudi Sports Channel and Kuwait Sports Channel.
Yesterday’s conference followed a tour visit by Shaikh Salman along with Works Minister Essam Khalaf, General Organisation of Youth and Sports President Hisham Al Jawder, members of the Parliament and Shura Councils and other VIPs.
On behalf of the organising committee, Shaikh Salman expressed relief on the completion of all the renovation and maintenance work at the stadiums that will host the matches as well as the training sessions during this prestigious two-week tournament.
