Plan to empower Bahraini women

The Supreme Council for Women (SCW) has reviewed, in the presence of its Secretary-General Hala Al Ansari and a number of officials at the Secretariat-General, the strategic plan for the year 2014 regarding the implementation of the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women (2014-2022).

During the two-day meeting, the SCW members were informed about the strategic plan and exchanged views regarding the proposed programmes and projects for the year 2014, and ways of implementing them in partnership with the concerned ministries and institutions so as to ensure they achieve the targeted indicators and impacts.

The meeting also reviewed the work teams’ findings and plans to reach the impacts targeted by the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women, including family stability, equal opportunities, life-long learning, quality of life and house of experience.

The work team’s achievements during the planning and implementation phases concerning field visits to identify the available indicators in order to achieve its goals were also highlighted.

 

Bahrain University to host international conference

The fifth international conference on multi-criteria funding, insurance and investment will be held from November 25 to November 27 at the College of Business Management, University of Bahrain (UoB).

The International Society on Multi-criteria Decision Making (MCDM) and the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) gave the go-ahead for the conference to be held in Bahrain.

UoB President Dr Ibrahim Mohammed Janahi stressed the importance of hosting added value conferences to promote scientific research and build bridges with specialists and keep abreast of international trends.

The fifth edition of the conference will attract up to 250 researchers, experts and post-graduate students from different countries who will discuss the latest funding, insurance and investment trends.

College of Business Management Dean Dr Mounawer Al Shammari said that the scientific Committee had slated 85 research papers from 28 countries.

 

Works Ministry inspects Muharraq Sewage Plant

Minister of Works Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf visited the Muharraq Sewage Treatment Plant (MSTP) in Hidd and was briefed about its progress and work plan.

The minister stated that the construction of MSTP was progressing well, whereby 90 per cent of the project has been completed, noting that the station will start receiving sanitation water in the first quarter of 2014.

The project involves construction of the sewage treatment plant, a deep gravity sewer and network connections.

The network connections will intercept 24 existing pump stations and divert the flows to the deep gravity sewer pipeline. The deep gravity sewer will further discharge the flows to the terminal lifting station to be constructed at the head of the new sewage treatment plant.

The deep gravity sewer will measure 16km in length and 1.8m in diametre. The sewer is being tunnelled using the micro-tunnelling method.

 

Gulf Strategic Conferencefrom October 29

The Gulf Strategic Conference will open on October 29 at the Sofitel Hotel. The Bahrain Centre for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (Derasat) will organise the two-day event.

Leading international figures, prominent analysts, researchers and experts specialised in international, Middle Eastern and Arabian Gulf studies will take part, along with renowned think tanks.

The conference will scrutinise current regional developments in deep insight and assess their potential repercussions on the region and relations bonding GCC states and key regional players.

The conference will seek to elaborate realistic and practical policies to maintain security and stability in the region. It will also discuss key issues, global strategic transformations and their impact on the current stratum of the international order.
