President Mahinda Rajapaksa will visit Bahrain for the first time next week as part of an official tour of the Gulf, officials said.

He will visit Bahrain from next Monday to Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka opened an embassy in Bahrain last May in an effort to enhance diplomatic ties and provide consular assistance to the estimated 20,000 Sri Lankan nationals working in the kingdom.
