Bahrain citizens and residents will enjoy cheaper hotel room rates as part of government’s efforts to boost the tourism sector.

Thirty-four luxury hotels have agreed to slash room prices by 20 per cent round the year, starting August, Assistant Undersecretary for Tourism Shaikh Khalid bin Humood Al Khalifa has announced.

Housing Minister Engineer Bassim Yaqoub Al Hamer has said that the ministry has embarked on activating the pilot phase of its “scale rating” system, which allocates temporary apartments for applicants on the ministry’s housing waiting list.

The minister said that the trial period targets applicants under pressing economic and social conditions, considering the possibility of circulating the service among the rest of the applications when the system is formally activated. Al Hamer said that “scale rating” system measures the total income of the individual applicant and his/her family, monitors the socio-economic conditions of his/her family members, as well as the criteria of priority and age group,

The ministry allots a specific number of points for each criterion and the applicant who has the highest number of points gets priority, taking into consideration that the points reflect an application’s urgency.
