KOLKATA: The first IPL 7 qualifier between Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders to be played at Eden Gardens here has been postponed to today due to heavy rain.
The game would start at 1.30pm, Bahrain time, in Kolkata followed by the Eliminator at 5.30pm, Bahrain time, between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians at Brabourne stadium, Mumbai.
The Indian Meteorological Department’s forecast has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next two days and the heavy downpour has forced the IPL organisers to shift the game to the reserve day.
On Monday, both teams had to skip their practice sessions on the eve of the match, as the ground was under covers due to continuous rainfall.
Chief Operating Officer of IPL, Sundar Raman also tweeted explaining that in case of a delay in start today as well, the play can start as late as 5.50pm, Bahrain time, with five over a side.
However, if the match is not completed today as well, Kings XI Punjab will move on to the final on the basis of having better run-rate in the league stages.
