Nico Rosberg says that his qualifying strategic error in Bahrain was on his mind in Spanish qualifying, leading to a much more aggressive approach en route to pole position. After taking pole position for tomorrow’s Spanish Grand Prix, Nico Rosberg says that his approach changed due to his Saturday error in Bahrain. During Q2 in Sakhir, Rosberg didn’t push hard on his tyres, in an effort to ensure better tyre tactics for Sunday’s race. However, as a result, he fell out of his own rhythm, and was beaten to 2nd place by Sebastian Vettel, compromising Nico further.

“For sure, Bahrain was still on my mind.” he said when asked in the qualifying press conference.

“I wanted to make sure I didn’t make that mistake again, and I just got myself into the rhythm during Q2 and that really worked out well for me today.”

Rosberg took his first pole position of the season on Saturday, having set two flying laps that were good enough for pole position. A chirpy Nico said afterwards:

“I needed a pole sooner than later, it’s just one step on the way to winning the race this weekend, but it’s been a good day in the office.”
