Russia trade ties are discussed

MANAMA: A meeting was held to discuss the outcome of His Majesty King Hamad’s visit to Russia.

Chaired by Industry and Commerce Minister Dr Hassan Fakhro, the meeting was attended by Russian Ambassador Viktor Smirnov, members of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry, businessmen, investors and representatives from government and private banks.

The minister commended Bahraini-Russian efforts made to enhance co-operation and to activate joint agreements.

He underlined the government’s resolve to promote initiatives aimed at boosting co-operation in all fields and noted the need to establish a joint business council to contribute to strengthening joint efforts in this area.

Mr Smirnov underscored the importance of Gulf Air’s direct flights to Moscow to be launched on October 28, that aim to facilitate trade between the two nations.

He noted that preparations are currently being done by the Russian Embassy to hold a Russian trade week in December along with a Russian products
exhibition.

He also confirmed the participation of Russian companies specialised in manufacturing gems and precious stones in the Jewellery Arabia Exhibition to be held in Manama in November and stressed the intention to establish a Russian language centre in Bahrain.
