Sangakkara arrives in Bahrain
Feb 09, 2013 (Menafn – Gulf Daily News – McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) –SRI Lankan cricket legend and one of the all-time greats Kumar Chokshanada Sangakkara arrived in Bahrain last night on a two-day trip, his first to the kingdom.
The former Sri Lanka captain was greeted by hundreds of his fans, officials from various Sri Lankan organisations in Bahrain and dignitaries from Nonoo Exchange Company at Bahrain International Airport.
“It’s a pleasure for us to welcome Sangakkara to Bahrain and we appreciate the efforts of Nations Trust Bank Sri Lanka in reaching to the Sri Lankan community in Bahrain,” said Binoy Simon, one of the coordinators and sales and marketing manager at Nonoo Exchange Company.
The 35-year-old cricketer will open a ‘Special Cell’ of Nations Trust Bank at Gudaibiya branch of Nonoo Exchange Company, opposite Gudaibiya Police Station, today at 9.30am.
The celebrated cricketer, one of the most articulate and well respected all over the world, will also be part of ‘Meet Sanga’ programme at Nonoo Exchange Company head office at Shaikh Isa Avenue at 10.30am.
The left-hander, who is also a law graduate, is one of the few batsmen to have scored more than 10,000 runs in both Tests and one-dayers which include 30 centuries in the former format and 14 in the latter.
Sangakkara is expected to attend various functions organised by Sri Lankan communities in Bahrain and Nonoo Exchange Company.
He will be launching www.nonooremit.com with Nonoo Exchange Company CEO Fuad Nonoo and DGM, Nations Trust Bank Sri Lanka, Priyantha Thalwathe.
Later today, Sangakkara will be attending the Sri Lankan Engineers Society, Bahrain Chapter, Leadership Programme at Bahrain Engineers Auditorium, Juffair, at 4.30pm.
Sangakkara will be accompanied by chief manager, Retail Banking of Nations Trust Bank, Sanjay Perera and senior manager, Alternative Channel and Remittance, Nations Trust Bank Sri Lanka, Damitha Silva.
