Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdelaziz on Monday received a phone call from Qatari emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, official Saudi SPA news agency reported.

“The call tackled bilateral relations between the two countries and the latest Arab and regional developments,” the agency said.

The call comes one day after Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain agreed Sunday to send their ambassadors back to Qatar – after nearly 8 months from recalling them – as per the understanding the Gulf leaders reached in Sunday’s Riyadh summit.

Qatar’s emir also received a call from his Kuwaiti counterpart Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah, during which they discussed the “fraternal relations between the two countries as well as matters of mutual interest.”

Relations between Qatar on one hand and Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain on the other worsened earlier this year when the three latter countries accused Doha of interfering in their affairs.

In March, they recalled their ambassadors from Doha in an unprecedented move that reflected the magnitude of the Gulf rift.

Many observers, however, linked the rift to Doha’s perceived support for ousted Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi and the latter’s Muslim Brotherhood group, which remains the target of a relentless security crackdown by Egypt’s military-backed authorities.

Saudi Arabia and the UAE were the first two Arab countries to welcome Morsi’s ouster by the army last year following opposition protests.
