Manama, Sep 2 (BNA): The Supreme Council for the Environment (SCE) and the Office of the Energy Minister, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme and the French Embassy, will organize a training workshop for media staff titled (Capacity building and raising awareness of media staff on climate change and energy) and the Road to Paris on climate change.
The training workshop will be held on 6-8 September 2015 at the United Nation headquarter in Manama.
It aims to raise awareness of media staff in Bahrain about development relating to climate change and energy. It also targets promoting national dialogue among stakeholders in the field of climate change and energy, including the relevant government agencies, private sector and civil society organizations.
international and local specialists will address the workshop in areas relating to energy and climate change.
Energy Minister Dr. Abdulhussain bin Ali Mirza; Chief Executive Officer of the Supreme Council for the Environment Dr. Mohammed Mubarak bin Dina; UN Resident Coordinator in Bahrain Peter Grohmann, and the French Ambassador to Bahrain Bernard Regnauld-Fabre, will give speeches at the opening session.
A short documentary film will be shown on climate change impacts and threats, and an introduction will be made on the UN Convention on Climate Change and the efforts of Bahrain in the field of sustainable energy through the formulation of appropriate policies.
UNDP Deputy Resident Representative Ameen Al-Sharqawi said that the workshop comes in the contest of the UNDP support for the implementation of Bahrain Government Action Plan 2015-2018 led by HRH Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, chiefly in the area of promoting sustainable energy policies and adopting to climate change by inviting international experts and benefiting from modern practices in the interest of the homeland.
