Manama, Oct. 12. (BNA) – The Supreme Council for Women (SCW) has organised, in collaboration with the Centre for Constitutional and Legal Studies and Consultations at the University of Bahrain (UoB), a workshop on international human rights conventions and the Bahraini women’s participation, as a part of a training and educational programme of Bahraini women in human rights and legal fields.
During the workshop, Dr. Ali Al Musrati, Assistant Professor of international law at the UoB’s Faculty of Law, lectured on the kingdom’s stances regarding international conventions in the fields of public and private human right, racial discrimination cases and combating torture.
He also shed light on the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and the kingdom’s reservations to it, the Convention on the Rights of the Child, binding basics of human rights protection in the kingdom and the position of the Islamic Shari’a regarding human rights.
it is worth noting that the session is implemented by a number of law professors who trained participants on legal issues related to the family, including the legal and shari’a provisions, as well as requirements and impacts of marriage, provisions and legal impacts of divorce and other women-related issued.
The programme is among a series of training sessions orgnised by the SCW, in collaboration with the UoB, on the Family Provisions Law, constitutional principles and human rights, with a special focus on women’s rights in Islamic Shari’a and international standards.
