Manama, Jan. 29 (BNA) — Bahrain Olympic Committee chief executive Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa yesterday received at his office former English international and analyst for RTÉ Sport in Ireland Trevor McGregor Steven, who is on a visit to the Kingdom.
Shaikh Khalid welcomed the ex-Everton midfielder and briefed him on the highlights of Bahrain’s achievements in the last 10 years. Their discussions were focused on football since it’s the favourite sport for Steven.
During the meeting, Shaikh Khalid also made a presentation on the projects and programmes organized by the committee and its role in supporting all sports federations in general, and to the football association in specific.
Steven, on his part, said he was pleased for making this visit to Bahrain and praised the significant sports development in the kingdom.
He showed admiration on the key role of the committee in backing sports programmes and hailed what Bahrain has reached in all areas, and wished Bahrain sports further progress and prosperity.
Right-sided midfielder with great vision and pinpoint crossing ability, Steven grew through the ranks at Burnley, making his debut in 1981.
Over the next two seasons he became a regular supplier of goals and Everton boss Howard Kendall, who was building a new team based on youth, decided to bid for him.
Since he retired, Steven has worked in the media. In his early career he worked as a co-commentator for the BBC during their coverage of the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
Steven now acts as a pundit for RTÉ Sport in Ireland, having covered the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany for the broadcaster.
He is also a regular contributor to RTÉ’s coverage of the Premier League and UEFA Champions League, acting both as analyst and co-commentator. He contributed to RTÉ Sport’s coverage of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
