Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad leads national team to US Iron Man Championship

Manama, Jun 21 (BNA) — In their fifth international participation, today Bahrain’s triathletes take part in the United States Iron Man Championship being held in New York.

Chairman of the Supreme Council of Youth and Sports (SCYS), President of Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) and Bahrain Triathlon team captain, HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and with the participation of SCYS First Deputy Chairman and President of Bahrain Football Association, HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, led team members to contest 2300 international contenders.

The championship will include a 1.9 kilometer swimming race, 90 km cycling and a 21 km run. It will start at 2pm (Bahrain timing) and is expected to continue for six hours.

Equipment handover procedures and legal disclaimer forms were signed yesterday.

The team, which included three female members, continued their running and swimming training sessions yesterday.

Following the swimming training, HH Shaikh Nasser commented that the swimming race will be a tough challenge, considering the density of waterweeds living in the lake, where the race takes place.

HH Shaikh Khalid said that despite the challenging race courses, Bahraini triathletes will spare no efforts to achieve best results.
