SUPREME Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa led Bahrain triathlon team in the New York Ironman Championship, held in Syracuse, New York City in the United States yesterday.
The team consisted of 16 triathletes, headed by SCYS first deputy chairman and Bahrain Athletic Association president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa and Bahrain Triathlon Association president Shaikh Saqr bin Salman Al Khalifa, in addition to three women triathletes.
They competed against 2300 international contenders in three contests, including swimming for 1.9 kilometers, cycling for 90 km and a 21 km run. The competitions lasted for more than six hours.
Prior to the race, team members held various training sessions following the lead of Shaikh Nasser. He said that participating in the US championship adds to the team’s previous experience in international competitions.
The team’s participation was highlighted by American media, which covered and published the team’s training sessions and stay in the city.
