Manama, Feb. 13 (BNA)– The National Action Charter, which was approved by a sweeping majority of the Bahraini people in 2001, is a milestone in the history of Bahrain as it represents the main pillar of the reform project inaugurated by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
Speaking to Bahrain News Agency on the occasion of the 13th anniversary of the charter, a number of Shura Council members hailed Bahrain’s pioneering reforms which have earned the kingdom an advanced status as a democratic country. They said endorsement of the charter was a landmark step which generated successive achievements and reforms at all political, economic and social levels.
Dr. Abdulaziz Abul described the charter’s approval with an unprecedented sweeping majority of the Bahraini people as a major achievement that paved the way for fast political development. He added Bahrain has witnessed major political, economic, social and cultural developments since the endorsement of the charter.
He said the charter was a long-term strategic “roadmap” for political work in Bahrain which has begot many achievements at all levels and still many are in the pipeline.
On his part, Shaikh Abdulrahman Abdulsalem said the charter was a quality leap that has engineered the national development prowess. He underlined the charter’s role in fostering stability and democracy.
Meanwhile, Khalid Al Masqati said the National Action Charter placed Bahrain on the right path towards reform and development spearheaded by HM the King. He added that the legislative process needs tireless work. “We chose the right path and we need to continue to achieve forecast goals,” he asserted.
For his part, Abdulrahman Jawaheri underlined the importance of the National Action Charter in shaping the constitution’s outlook. He also underscored Bahrain’s numerous achievements at all levels under the leadership of HM the King. He commended cooperation between the executive and legislative powers to achieve the aspirations of the Bahraini people.
Shura Council member Dhia Al Moussawi said the charter ushered in a new era of reform and openness, stressing its importance as an inspirational document for all Bahrainis. He affirmed the need for the internal front to remain united so as to preserve the civilisational image of Bahrain inside and abroad.
