KARACHI – Pakistan’s famous playback singer Mehnaz Begum died on Saturday after a protracted illness, private tv channels reported.
She was suffering from multiple ailments and died in Bahrain while on her way to the United States where she had been living for the past decade.
Born in 1958, Mehnaz, sung a variety of genres but specialised in ghazal, thumri, dadra, khayal, drupad and recited salam, noha and marsiya. She also sang in films.
Her mother was a celebrated sub-continental singer Kajjan Begum and her father a former government servant Abdullah Abdullah Tasnim.
