THE eyes of the world will focus on Bahrain this November when Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) hosts the final round of the 2013 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).
The Six Hours of Bahrain will take place on November 30. It is the championship’s only Middle East round, and it offers fans the unique spectacle of starting off in daylight and then ending in the darkness at night.
The WEC’s first two events this season have already witnessed heated action, and the showcase 24 Heures du Mans, the championship’s third round, takes place this weekend in Le Mans, France.
A team of BIC personnel will travel to Le Mans to drum up excitement about the Six Hours of Bahrain race. They will be joined by officials from the Ministry of Culture and the Bahrain Tourism Authority.
A special tent will be erected at the heart of the Le Mans circuit filled with all kinds of promotional material about the kingdom. Visitors will learn about the attractive ticket and accommodation packages that are being unveiled for those who would like to attend the Bahrain race. The tent will also feature promotional material including DVDs about Bahrain, and other giveaways.
This year’s WEC features eight exciting rounds, each taking place in the nations that hosted the event during last year’s maiden season. A spectacular field of over 30 race cars will compete and with several talented racers in the fray, fans can look forward to some exciting on-track action.
Competition will take place in four different car categories, including the Le Mans Prototype 1 (LMP1), the Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2), the Le Mans Grand Touring Endurance-Professional (LMGTE Pro), and the Le Mans Grand Touring Endurance-Amateur (LMGTE Am).
The 2013 season flagged off in April with a six-hour race in Silverstone in the UK, which was followed by the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, held last month.
The gruelling 24 Heures du Mans, on June 22 and 23 is the WEC’s next round. With years of history to its name, the major event is one of the world’s most popular races, and it is motorsport’s oldest active sports car endurance race.
The action then moves to South America, when the Six Hours of Sao Paulo takes place in Brazil on September 1. It precedes the Six Hours of the Circuit of the Americas, the WEC’s fifth round, which takes place on September 22 in Austin, Texas.
As was the case last year, the championship will feature rounds in Asia, including the Six Hours of Fuji at Japan’s Fuji International Speedway on October 20, and the Six Hours of Shanghai that takes place on November 10.
The Six Hours of Bahrain will be the final round of the 2013 WEC season. Competitors will look to end the championship on a high when they battle it out on BIC’s world-renowned 5.412-kilometre Grand Prix track.
BIC hosted a hugely successful round last year that was attended by over 10,000 motorsport fans.
