PyeongChang-Feb2(BNA)Bahraini athlete Khamis Saad Al-Dosary made history clinching the gold medal in the 100-metre skating race in the Special Olympics World Games.
The global sporting event opened on January 29 in PyeongChang, South Korea, and will run until Tuesday (5 February 2013).
Gold medalist Khamis Saad Al-Dosary braved the extremely harsh weather conditions to win the race, beating his Chinese, Libyan, German, Hong Kong and Hungarian rivals.
Meanwhile, Aisha Sabt and Noora Bourashid also took part in the 100-metre skating race, ranking fourth and sixth respectively.
Special Olympics President Shaikh Daij bin Khalifa Al-Khalifa and athletes’ families all telephoned the delegation in PyeongChang and congratulated them on Al-Dosary’s landmark performance.
Shaikh Daij bin Khalifa Al-Khalifa hailed the technical and administrative staff for sparing no effort to prepare the special athletics team, which will compete also in the 200-metre skating race, with hopes riding high to ensure another achievement.
The special athletics team includes Khamis Saad Al-Dosary, Sayyed Ali Sayyed Hussein, Noora Bourashid and Aisha Sabt. AHN
